Ibenstein Karakul Carpet Weaving Facility:

www.ibenstein-weavers.com.na

A karakul carpet is an investment in quality living which will last for generations. Ibenstein Weavers has been making decorative, high-quality carpets, runners and wall hangings from Karakul wool for more than 50 years. The designs range from classical themes to colourful contemporary creations while others are characterized by an African flair.

Apart from carpets you will find beautiful fabrics woven from natural yarns, such as wild Kalahari silk, linen, cotton or bamboo.

Ibenstein Weavers looks back on a proud tradition of more than 50 years. Anne Ramdohr, who runs the company together with her husband Wolfgang, is the granddaughter of the founder Marianne Krafft. Some of our weavers have been working with us for decades already.

Allow Kowas Hunting Safaris to take you to Ibenstein Weavers! We look forward to taking you on a tour of the Ibenstein premises and will gladly explain the process of weaving carpets and fabrics. Ibenstein Weavers is situated on farm Klein Ibenstein near Dordabis, only ¾ of an hour's drive from Kowas.

Natural Fabrics from Namibia
Ibenstein Weavers'untreated, undyed fabrics are woven on a semi-automatic loom for selling by the metre. Nevertheless, the weaving process still requires a lot of manual work. Constant quality controls, carried out by one staffer during production and by another one after production, guarantee that we deliver high-quality and evenly structured fabrics. The wild silk is from the Kalahari. They purchase the yarns in the southern African region. The fabrics are as much suited for exquisite haute couture as they are for decorative curtains, table and bed linen.

A Carpet for Life
The high-quality carpets are skilfully handcrafted and have a lifespan of at least 25 years – in normal use they mostly last even much longer. As for the colours, any conceivable shade is available and they do not fade either. The carpets are easy-care because a certain amount of the stain-resistant natural fat (lanolin) is left on the fibre when we carefully clean the raw wool.

The entire production process, from processing the raw wool to cleaning the finished carpet, is in their expert hands and those of their longstanding employees. You can rest assured, by the way, that Ibenstein Weavers are strictly opposed to child labour.

Take along or have it sent
There is no need to cram your carpet into your suitcase to get it home. You can count on Ibenstein Weavers for delivery worldwide, at the lowest possible cost. Your carpet will arrive sewn into a protective cover with waterproof wrapping. They accept Master and Visa cards for payment.
